Investigation: Painting Techniques
We began our
investigation about painting techniques in February when Ms. Telners discovered the
children’s interest in painting with sponges.
We started by exploring with circle and star-shaped sponges and red and
green paint. Some students squished
their sponge down on the paper using their palm in order to make circle prints
like the ones shown below.
Other
students wanted to spread the paint across the paper with their sponges. See the picture below to see an example of
what this painting technique looked like.
“I’m
spreading it over the star prints I made.” -Theo
Paisley came
up with the idea to roll her sponges.
“Look! I’m rolling it!” she said.
We came to the conclusion that when you roll the sponges across the
paper hardly any paint comes off of the sponges.
We continued
using these techniques throughout the activity and talked about what types of
designs these techniques made on the paper.
